Idol worship?

Where is the LORD in this song? Do you hear the glorification that a tree is getting in this “carol”?

“Much pleasure do you(tree) give me”…the tree gives pleasure?

We are to sing praises and to give thanks unto The Lord our God not any one or anything else.
2 Samuel 22:50 – Therefore I will give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and I will sing praises unto thy name.

No where does it say to heap praise on a tree and if a tree gives you pleasure well may I lovingly suggest you seek the God that gave you breath?

When I came into the new birth The Good Lord has allowed me (I am still growing, by the way 😉 ) and I REALLY listened to this song and it’s lyrics being sung to a tree I threw my tree away.   I find it embarrassing that we have taught little kids to glorify a tree…

O Christmas tree,
O Christmas tree
Your leaves are so unchanging
O Christmas tree,
O Christmas tree
Your leaves are so unchanging

Not only green when
Summer’s here
But also when it’s cold and drear
O Christmas tree,
O Christmas tree
Your leaves are so unchanging

O Christmas tree,
O Christmas tree
Much pleasure you do give me
O Christmas tree,
O Christmas tree
Much pleasure you do give me

How often has the Christmas tree
Given me the greatest glee
O Christmas tree,
O Christmas tree
Much pleasure you do give me

From top to bottom
You’re so bright
There’s only splendor for the sight
O Christmas tree,
O Christmas tree
Your lights are shining brightly

O Christmas tree,
O Christmas tree
Your lights are shining brightly

  1. I never thought about it in this light, excellent post friend! We never sing this particular song, but I have noticed a lot of Christmas music tends to be humanistic in nature. Singing to a tree! That is really silly!

  2. I just found a good Christian radio station (well, it was hubs who found it fiddling with the truck radio) and they promised to play scripturally sound X Mass music… hmmm…yeah…sure… So, here is the song played this morning, “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” and I thought to myself, “Yes, ’tis the season for Christians to come home to Rome for X Mass!” As one brother said, “Protestants hate the Roman Catholic Masses except this one.”
