NEW BOOKLET: Teresa of Avila – An Ancient Mystic Who Helped Shape Today’s Spiritual Formation Movement

Editor’s Note: Today, it is not uncommon for Christian leaders and teachers to recommend the writings of Teresa of Avila.

“While some readers may find some of Teresa’s mystical experiences (that at times included involuntary levitating) troubling to read, it is important to understand that the “spiritual ecstasies” Teresa of Avila encountered were the result of her practicing a meditative prayer, much like one that is being practiced by countless Christians today through the Spiritual Formation (i.e., contemplative prayer) movement.”

  1. Poor deluded woman! There never was any “prayer of quiet” for her with all of her mental din going on! This levitation is practiced by occultists and when she was being warned, even by the apostate Roman Catholic Church, she refused to heed it and instead declared it to be of God! This is what is so dangerous, that one has such an ecstatic momentary experience that it overrides all the warnings both from men and from the physical toll on the body which is a sure sign that it is not from God! Even those who practice astral projection, i.e. levitation, will argue that it is from God and is not demonic. Christians have to be careful because it could lead to a point where there is no turning back, that place of apostasy, while believing one is truly worshiping God and that it is He who is showing special favor toward them.

Thanks for sharing this, Elizabeth. Its a warning for everyone, not just the Roman Catholics. God bless you! \o/
